Beauty Standards

My eyebrows and I have a healthy relationship, but it took a long time for me to figure out what to do with them, and the answer was ultimately nothing at all. In seventh grade, I thought everyone had to pluck their eyebrows, and so I made the poor things into horrible shapes. It took many months of bad eyebrows for me to realize that I prefer my natural eyebrows.

Now, the moral of the story is not that you shouldn't pluck or wax your eyebrows, but rather that beauty standards don't really make sense. If you want to pluck or wax your eyebrows, that's awesome, but your natural eyebrows certainly aren't ugly. I have friends that think they're too skinny for guys to ever like them and friends that think they're too curvy as well. I see so many young ladies that despise their gorgeous curly hair, while I think my naturally stick-straight looks a lot better curled. Everyone wants what they don't have. And everyone damages their bodies to make themselves look like something they're not.

I'm not here to say that straightening or curling your hair or wearing makeup is a sin. I just ask that you do it for the right reasons. If you wear makeup because you feel as though that's what women must do, you're doing it for the wrong reason. So here's the deal: lift other girls up rather than putting them down for how they look or choose to look, and don't feel as though you have to look a certain way to be beautiful. Keep being you, because you are lovely.
