Take It Easy

Today the world moves really fast. There's always something to do, something to see, something to get done. I feel like I'm constantly trying to catch up on a never-ending list of tasks. There's a major focus on goals and getting things done, which is absolutely great, don't get me wrong.

But sometimes we need to take it easy on ourselves, too.

There are some days where the words don't come, when it's too hard to get work done, when we're tired and beaten down and weary and cranky and we just need a break. We aren't made to be the Energizer bunny and constantly go all the time. We need to have down time. Otherwise we'll get burnt out.

Most of the time, these moments hit when I'm not aware of them and when I least expect. They hit when there's an avalanche of things to do and when I feel buried under a list of things that seem like they'll never be accomplished. I'm willing to bet that you're familiar with this feeling, too.

I'm here to tell you to put down the pen, the phone, the book, the laundry... whatever it is that's in your hands, set it down for a second. Okay. Close your eyes now. Take a few deep breaths. Good. Breathe in and out. Now... do what is absolutely essential and then leave the rest for tomorrow.

I know, I know. This is one of the hardest things for me to do. It goes against my very nature. But it's one of the most important things to do. It helps us to calm down, refocus, and have a breather. We need to take it easy from time to time. We need lazy days. We need breaks. Sometimes we just need to take it easy. And that is absolutely okay.

There's a time, of course, to persevere, and there's a time to rest. Now is that time. Take it easy today, dear one. And whenever you come back to daily life, you'll feel more recharged than ever.
