Lighthearted: Ashley Strawser

Lighthearted, noun; a column on Youer than You dedicated to two things: 1.) shining a light on the hearts of dream-chasers and life-livers and human beings who exist worldwide, and 2.) providing a lighthearted interview session where you can kick back, relax, and get to know new friends.

1. First thing's first: tell us a little bit about yourself!

Well, I'm a 23-year old who lives in a very small town in central PA. I've grown up with a family of 5 (my parents have been married almost 25 years), and my siblings (16 and 10) are adopted from Vietnam. I currently work full-time at a physical therapy clinic as a receptionist and therapist aide. I love being around people...and I love talking!

2. Show me one of your favorite photos of you and/or a photo that makes you happy!

photo of me.
photo that makes me happy :)

3. When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up? How did those dreams evolve over time?

I wanted to be a waitress when I was really little. (I think this comes from my love of talking to people). As I got older, I realized that an office job was more my style, so I'm working as a receptionist and I absolutely love it.

4. What are your current hopes for your future?

I'm kind-of cliche, but I want to be a wife and mom someday. I've always wanted to have a family (between 3-5 kids). We'll see if those hopes and dreams change over time, but I don't think I'll ever stop wanting to be a mom.

5. Why did you start Youer than You?

When I was a teenager, more than anything, I wanted a place I could go where people understood me. I mean, don't we all want that? Somewhere where people GET us? Well, that's how Youer than You was born. With great writers from young teens into their early thirties, I think that we've got a great group of people that will understand YOU. Youer than You is my baby.

6. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

READ. I'd read as a job if I could figure out a way to do it! Also, I write, and love to make music.

7. What's the funniest thing that's happened to you recently?

Um, I don't really think that I lead a very funny life. The other night, I had a dream that I married an Irish guy and we named our first son Ireland. So yeah. That was kind-of funny. (And I hope it happens. But I wouldn't name my son Ireland, just clarifying).

8. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want to have with you, and why?

My phone and charger. A notebook and a pen. And my Kindle (and charger) so that I'm never without a good book. Wait, would there be places to charge things on a deserted island?

9. If you had a time machine and could go back in time to talk to a teenage version of you, what would you say?

"You do not have to be like everyone else. You are you (ha!) and you are special. Don't let anyone tell you anything different."

10. If you could give everyone in the world a word of encouragement right now, what would you say?

Just a word? Nah. A group of words. I'd tell them that...

...you are so special. You are beautiful. You are funny and special. You make the world a better place and you can change the world.
