Your Voice Matters

Have you noticed that the world is just so... loud?

Commercials, advertisements, and social media constantly shout at us, and it's way too easy to get overwhelmed. For the most part, I'm incredibly grateful for social media, technology, and the world we live in today. You won't hear me complaining too much about kids these days with their smartphones and Snapchats--technology has given me way too many good things! However, in a world where things are being posted constantly, it can be easy to feel drowned out, like our voice doesn't matter.

I would like to tell you the exact opposite.

It never ceases to amaze me that every person is so deep, multi-layered, and complex. Within each person, there is an entire world. We all look at the world differently, we all experience things in a unique way. I know it's hard to believe that in a world full of billions of people, there is no one else like you--but it's true. There may be people out there similar to you, but your personality, your thought processes, your upbringing, and your experiences all combine beautifully to make you the person that you are.

And that person has things to say. You have things to say.

And that person's voice matters. Your voice matters.

I know it can be hard to feel like it does. Here's the thing: even if your voice doesn't span very far... even if you don't get that many likes... even when your words in a room are met with complete silence... what you have to say is so important. You deserve someone who will hang on your every word and appreciate everything that comes out of your mouth, no matter how noteworthy. And I'm here to say that though we may not know each other, I believe in what you have to say.

Your words and your voice may not be met with thundering applause or mass approval; they may not be heard by millions. But I can guarantee you there is at least one person out there who needs to hear what you have to say. I can't count how many times people have impacted me by sharing their voice, their stories. Sometimes it's helped me even when people send me something as simple as a meme. Sharing about your struggles or even about your daily life has power. It has the power to help people feel less alone. Even if only one person hears your voice and feels a little bit better... isn't that worth it?

So. Go ahead and post that status, write that story, create that art, put up that selfie, share your heart. It's worth it, and it matters.

We're here. We're listening.

I'm here. I'm listening.

What would you like to say?
