Princess Leia Inspired Make Up

Carrie Fisher, who played the iconic Princess Leia, sadly passed on December 27. I had a big Christmas outfit blog post planned out, but I decided I really just wanted to try to do Princess Leia inspired makeup in honor of Carrie. This was a super fun look to create, and I ended up trying a whole bunch of new things in the process.  There are bits and pieces of Leia's makeup looks from each Star Wars movie she was featured in, and I ended up with something completely different from what I normally wear on my face, but I can totally see elements of this look becoming a part of my normal makeup routine. Without further ado, let us begin!

1. I was about to start my normal foundation routine, but then I realized that 1977 Princess Leia had a more powdery look, and dewy and shiny liquid foundation is a more recent trend. So, I went into my mom's makeup, and applied her Mary Kay Mineral Powder Foundation. Before doing this, I used Almay Clear Complexion Concealer on blemishes and under my eyes.

2. One of the first things I noticed when I looked at Princess Leia's eyes was white eyeshadow. I put the lightest color from e.l.f.'s Happy Hour eyeshadow palette in the inner corners of my eyes, on the browbone, and really all over the lid as a base.

3. Next, I got out my trusty Naked palette by Urban Decay and put Naked 2 on the eyelid. After that, I put the color Faint in my crease and blended that color downward.

4. If you look closely at Leia's eyes in The Empire Strikes Back, you'll notice a bit of a deep purple eyeshadow. I thought this was cool, so I used Sweet Plum by Mary Kay to create a purple line on the crease of my eyelids.

5. Another noticeable thing Princess Leia showcases is her pencil eyeliner. I haven't touched an eyeliner pencil since seventh grade, but I decided I needed to go for it to make this look as authentic as I could. I used the Covergirl Perfect Point Plus eyeliner pencil in the shade Espresso and put a thin line above and below my eye.

6. What would be a Star Wars makeup tutorial without some Star Wars makeup? I used my favorite Covergirl Star Wars Supersizer mascara in the shade Very Black on both my top and bottom lashes. I NEVER use mascara on my bottom lashes because I didn't think I liked the way it looked on me, but I think it turned out okay! To add volume, I also put on a layer of Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara in the shade Black. I then combed out my eyelashes like crazy, because I'm pretty sure princesses don't have clumpy mascara.

7. I rarely wear blush, because I'm way too obsessed with just putting highlighter all over my face. Princess Leia, on the other hand, wore a ton of blush, and totally slayed it. I chose the color Shy Blush from Mary Kay and applied a generous amount of it.

8. After that, I used the darkest bronze color in the e.l.f. Illuminating Palette as a bronzer to add some color to my face.

9. Leia is almost always sporting orangey-red glossy lips. Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in the shade Papaya duplicated her look well.

With that, the look is finished, and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out!

This was a crazy fun look to create, and if there's one thing I learned, it's that it doesn't hurt to try new things. Thanks for reading!

"Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What's important is the action. You don't have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually the confidence will follow." -Carrie Fisher
